Fao-shameng Shtyle.","# It's Menging Time

If you've not heard of the community sensation that is our beloved [Fashao Meng](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/) game studio then where have you been?

From their debut hit of [开锁 模拟器](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/fashaolock) to their critically acclaimed [孟塔](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/meng-tower) over to their latest release of [POWER OF RANK](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/power-of-rank); Fashao Meng have been absolutely tearing up the - limited but honest - Hivecom indie games scene.

## The Fashao Meng Canon

A quick tour for the uninitiated, so you know what you're aspiring to:

- [**开锁 模拟器 (Lock Simulator)**](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/fashaolock): the studio's puzzle-arcade debut. Pick locks, steal yen from houses, and bask in the cheers of your samurai friends. One button, one dream: become the richest samurai alive. There's a wall of 7th-century Japanese history bolted onto the page if you'd like to historically educate yourself.
- [**孟塔 (Meng Tower)**](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/meng-tower): Fashao discovers his ancestors were game devs after the Yellow River coughs up the ruins of the family villa. A stone tablet, a CD-ROM, a mysterious program.
- [**POWER OF RANK**](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/power-of-rank): one-man-army flight bomber action in your trusty FE-621. Fight the enemy empire, climb the ranks, save ████ and ███ (redacted for their privacy tbh).
- [**死棋 (Dice Chess)**](https://fashao-meng.itch.io/dice-chess): filed under "tool," not "game," because of course it is. Chess, but dice. No generative AI was used (they want you to know).

## What's the Event?

The pitch: make your own short, scrappy, lovingly cursed game in the Fashao Meng tradition. Think one-button arcade absurdity, a mystery wrapped in a CD-ROM, a deeply researched history lesson nobody asked for, and a title that's secretly a pun.

The Fashao Meng house style, as far as anyone can tell:

1. **Small and finishable** - HTML5 / browser-friendly, a few MB, made in a jam-sized window.
2. **A bit, committed to** - lean into one weird idea and never break character.
3. **Lore optional but mandatory** - pad it out with a random Wikipedia article if the spirit moves you.
4. **Pun-titled** - bilingual bonus if you can swing it (死棋, anyone?).

## Why Now?

Most of the Fashao Meng canon was forged in **GameMaker**, so it's only right we follow tradition. And the timing's perfect: GameMaker is mid-overhaul right now. **GMRT (the new GameMaker Runtime)** is leaving beta across platforms this year, with source-available access on desktop, mobile, and web. There's also **new languages incoming**. Before the year is out, GMRT opens GameMaker up beyond GML to **JavaScript, TypeScript, and C#**. So if GML scares you, there's a path in.

Running this around **September** means you can grab the latest GameMaker, poke at the new runtime and languages, and ship a tiny blessed/cursed gem while the tooling is still warm out the oven.

## How to Take Part

Closer to the event we'll open up a **forum topic** where you can post your submissions and chat about everyone's entries. We'll link it here once it's live.

There'll also be a dedicated **[itch.io](http://itch.io) page** collecting all the games in one spot, Fashmeng-sho style.

Keep an eye out, both go up as we get closer to **September**.",1780202903289]
